Tropical Storm Elsa Hits Philly, DE, NJ Thurs-Fri; Edward Mathews Case; Man Hits Ex-Wife w/ Car/Bat

Tropical Storm Watches and Warnings are in effect ahead of Tropical Storm Elsa for New Jersey and Delaware beaches. The storm will impact the area late Thursday night into Friday morning, before clearing out Friday afternoon. There will be heavy rain with the potential for flooding and strong winds 25-35 mph with gusts to 45 mph. Expect heavy surf 6-9 feet. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect during that time for the whole Philadelphia, Delaware, New Jersey area. 1-2 inches of rain is possible, with locally 3 inches possible.

The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office announced that it is launching an independent investigation into "any and all incidents involving Mathews in Mount Laurel." Edward Cagney Mathews was arrested on Monday, 7/5, and charged with harassment, bias intimidation, and assault. A cell phone video showed Matthews harassing and shouting racial slurs outside a Black man's home on Friday, 7/2. The video was spread on social media and drew a large crowd to protest outside Mathews home. Community members have said that this isn't the first time Mathews has acted inappropriately. The investigation will also look into the Mount Laurel Police Department's handling of the incident. It you have information you can email tips@co.burlington.nj.us. Mount Laurel Mayor Stephen Steglik would like to see a federal civil rights investigation.

Philadelphia Police are investigating a man for domestic incident where he attacked his ex-wife. It happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, 7/6, on the 2900 block of Grant Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia. Police say that he deliberately crashed his car into his ex-wife's vehicle. She was driving with a co-worker as passenger. When they both stepped out of their cars, the man hit his former wife with a baseball bat. The man was caught by police when he try to run away. They were both taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
