Elkins Park Apartments Could Collapse, Tenants Leave; Center City Stabbing; Bucks Co. Mega Millions

Tenants from a Montgomery County apartment building were forced to leave their residences after the building was deemed unsafe. Residents of the Regina Rose Apartments on Stahr Road in Elkins Park found themselves suddenly out of a home. They were allowed inside briefly to gather some belongings. Crews responding to a gas leak last week discovered some structural damage to the building. Fire Marshal Scott Lynch says the building was in danger of collapse. Some temporary repairs were made to stabilize the building, but more permanent repairs need to be done. Apparently the landlord is not being cooperative with the township. Residents cannot return until the necessary repairs are completed. In the meantime, they have to find other housing.

An argument at a Center City bar continued on to the street and ended with a stabbing a few blocks later early Friday morning, 7/2. The argument started around 2:30 a.m. at a club near 13th and St. James Streets. The altercation continued between several people after they left the bar. A man in his 20s was stabbed in the neck at 11th and Walnut (2 ½ blocks from the bar). The victim ran to Jefferson Hospital. The emergency room is on that block of 11th. He is in critical but stable condition. No word on any possible suspects.

A winning Mega Millions ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven on 2760 Trenton Road in Levittown, Bucks County. The May 21 Mega Millions drawing was worth $516 million, or $349 million in cash. The ticket has all five numbers 6-9-17-18-48 and the Mega Ball 8. The ticket belonged to a group of five individuals who chose to remain anonymous. They formed the Peace of Mind Trust to collect. They decided to take the lump sum, which after tax is $254,233,980.
