An entire wing of 12-story beachfront condo building near Miami collapsed early Thursday morning, 6/24. It happened around 1:00 a.m. at the Champlain Tower South condominiums in the town of Surfside, Miami-Dade County. It is located about 6 miles north of the City of Miami. 55 of the building's 136 units collpased suddenedly. "The building has literally pancaked," Mayor Charles W. Burkett said. At least 1 person has been killed and 99 are still unaccounted for. However, those not accounted for may not have been in the building. Authorities believe the number of fatalities could rise as they continue their rescue operations in rubble. 102 people have been accounted for and 37 have been rescued. Officials are concerned about the stability of the remaining structure. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.

The second Delaware County brother to plead guilty in the 2018 Old City arson was sentenced on Thursday, 6/24. Bahaa Dawara received the same sentence as his brother, Imad, who was sentenced on Tuesday, 6/22. They will spend 9 years in prison and owe restitution. They pled guilty to conspiracy to commit arson and conspiracy to defraud the United States this past February. The two brothers set fire to their hookah bar business on the 200 block of Chestnut Street in February 2018. The ensuing fire destroyed two historic mid-rise buildings. 160 people were displaced and many other businesses were affected. Luckily, no one was killed. The brothers owed significant back rent and faced eviction. They hoped to collect on a $750,000 insurance policy due to the fire. They will have to pay $1 million each in restitution within 90 days and $20 million over time.
