Eight people were injured when a car crashed into an outdoor eating area of a restaurant in Northern Liberties on Wednesday morning, 5/12. It happened around 10:45 at Cafe La Maude on the 800 block of North 4th Street. The exact cause of the crash is not yet clear, but a silver sedan with front end damage is left at the scene. Apparently, one car tried to go around another and hit the structure. The injured were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

One person is dead and three are injured in a quadruple shooting in Southwest Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon, 5/12. It happened just after 4 p.m. on the 5500 block of Kingsessing Avenue. A 20-year-old man was shot and killed. Three others were also injured, no word on their conditions. No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advisory panel voted on Wednesday to endorse the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine in children ages 12-15. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted 14-0 with 1 recusal to recommend the shot be given to adolescents. The CDC is expected to accept that recommendation. The FDA already authorized emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine for young teens. During clinical trials teens reported some side effects including pain at the injection site and in joints and muscles, tiredness, headache, chills and fever, but no serious events. There are 17 million 12-15 year-olds in the US. They could become eligible for the shot as early as Thursday. Some locales have already started to give out shots to this age group.
