The FBI's Philadelphia Violent Crimes Task Force is now involved in the search for a man who killed his pregnant girlfriend, dumped her body, and set his car on fire before fleeing. 23-year-old Justin Smith is wanted for the murder of 21-year-old Dianna Brice and their unborn child. He is charged with murder, murder of an unborn child, arson, abuse of a corpse, evidence tampering, and weapons charges. He was last seen by his accomplice, 21-year-old Tylydia Garnett, when they dumped the body and set his car on fire in Southwest Philadelphia on March 30. Garnett has been arrested and charged with arson, abuse of a corpse, and related offenses. Smith should be considered armed and dangerous. The FBI says he has connections to New Castle, Delaware; Greensboro, North Carolina; the Little Haiti neighborhood of Miami, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia. There is a reward for information that leads to an arrest. (see wanted poster below)

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a man was found dead near the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City on Tuesday morning, 4/20. It happened around 7:30 a.m. on the 100 block of N. 13th Street. The 48-year-old man was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead a short time later. Officials say that he was assaulted. A pipe was found nearby. The convention center is the location of a FEMA vaccination clinic that can vaccinate 6,000 people daily. It is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Gwynedd Mercy University and Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary recently signed an agreement of sale that will allow the Seminary to relocate to GMercyU’s campus. The sale, which will not be finalized until the end of separate due diligence and approval periods, includes approximately 15 acres of space on the northern border of GMercyU’s campus as well as two existing buildings. Both institutions expressed their gratitude to the Maguire Foundation for a generous $3 million gift to Gwynedd Mercy University that will be supplemental to the $10 million purchase price by the seminary. The two institutions will remain separate entities. The seminary will have to renovate the existing buildings and construct some others including a student center and chapel. The seminary'scurrent campus in Lower Merion was sold to Main Line Health in 2019.

“"The Saint Charles Seminary community is thrilled to have found such a wonderful new home, and grateful for the generous support of The Maguire Foundation in making this transaction possible," said Bishop Timothy C. Senior, the Seminary’s Rector. "While there are mixed emotions involved with departing from Overbrook after many years, Gwynedd Mercy University's campus offers a beautiful setting and the perfect location for us. We anticipate being able to welcome our community to its new home for the 2024-25 academic year."

"When Bishop Senior approached us in December 2019 about relocating to a portion of our campus, we were excited about the possibilities of bringing two well-respected Catholic institutions of higher education together in one location," said Deanne H. D'Emilio, JD, president of Gwynedd Mercy University.  "We also are honored and grateful that The Maguire Foundation wants to support this exciting initiative. The Maguires are faithful supporters of Catholic higher education and have been steadfast and generous friends to Gwynedd Mercy University. I am so grateful for their continued support."
