A shooting in Southwest Philadelphia on Wednesday evening, 4/14, has left a father dead and his young son and another man critically injured. It happened around 7:30 p.m. near 53rd Street and Baltimore Avenue. A 28-year-old man, his 6-year-old son, and a 31-year-old man were sitting in a car parked on 53rd Street when a gunman opened fire. The vehicle was hit "at least six times by gunfire on the front hood, the front windshield and the driver door," Philadelphia Police Chief Insp. Scott Small said. The 28-year-old father was rushed to the hospital where he later died. He was shot twice in the chest. The child was shot once in his stomach and once in the right side of his lower back. He was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. He has since been transferred to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in critical but stable condition. The other man was shot in the chest. He is also hospitalized in critical condition. After the shooting, the 31-year-old man got out of the car and waved down police. The father drove off and crashed the car a few blocks away near 55th Street. No arrests have been made and no weapons were recovered.

Nerd Street Gamers hosted a 'groundbreaking' on Wednesday, 4/14, at the location of their new corporate headquarters. 'The Block' is located at 401 North Broad Street in Spring Garden. The new location will be an entire esports industry campus serving everyone from professional gamers to kids through a free after-school program. They will offer affordable access to high-quality equipment, super low latency internet, training, camps, and coaching. The facility will also host gaming tournaments. N3rd Street has been growing exponentially the past few years, securing several million in investments. They plan to open esports facilities across the country, but Philadelphia has become the hub for esports on the east coast.

Two Philadelphia police officers have been suspended 30 days with the intent to dismiss after being charged in two separate incidents. Officer Michael Kennedy, a former sergeant, is accused of pocketing a bundle of cash from the nightstand of an apartment during a drug raid in Kensington in 2016. He lied about it to investigators and the FBI. He eventually claimed he put it in evidence. He also tried to get another officer to lie for him. Authorities say that the resident of the apartment had a nanny cam set up in the room and they have video of Kennedy putting the money in his pocket. He faces 8 federal charges.

Officer James Saxton is charged with perjury and other offenses following a 2019 narcotics arrest. Saxton is accused of lying under oath when he said he observed a drug deal on the corner of A Street and Indiana Avenue on April 28, 2019. He is accused of arresting one of the men without legal justification and falsifying official reports.

"In order to earn the public’s trust, it is imperative that our officers be held to the absolute highest of professional standards," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said. "The charges against Officer Saxton and Sergeant Kennedy in these two cases are alarming, and there is absolutely no place for this type of conduct in the Philadelphia Police Department. We want to assure the public that we take any allegations of police misconduct seriously as incidents such as these damage the legitimacy of law enforcement."
