Police Shoot and Kill Man in Buena Vista Township, NJ; Man Shot/Killed in Old City; Philly Gunfire

The New Jersey Attorney General's Office is investigating after a man was shot and killed by police in Atlantic County on Monday afternoon, 4/5. It started around 3:30 p.m. near Harding Highway and Cumberland Road. Police responded to the scene of a traffic accident involving a black pickup truck. As officers were investigating the crash, the driver of the pickup truck got into one of the Franklin Township police cruisers and took off. Police chased the man for about a mile to Union and Oak roads just off Route 40 in Buena Vista Township. That is where the suspect was shot and killed by Franklin Township police. The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are not known. A witness said that officials did perform CPR on the suspect for 'a long time.' The identity of the deceased man has not been revealed.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Jhalil Shands.

A man was shot and killed in Old City on Monday night, 4/5, one of several shooting incidents in Philadelphia. It happened around 9:30 p.m. near 3rd and Chestnut Streets. Apparently four men jumped out of a van and opened fire on the victim. The 25-year-old man was shot in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police found 27 shell casings. The street was busy with several restaurants and shops open with outdoor dining.

Eight people were shot on Monday, 4/5, two of whom died. At around 6:40 p.m., a man was shot on the 1200 block of Parrish Street in North Philadelphia. He is in critical condition. Around 7:15 p.m., three people were shot on the 400 block of Annsbury Street in Hunting Park. A 32-year-old man was hit multiple times and died at the hospital. A 29-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were also shot. There are in stable condition. Around 8:30 p.m., a 34-year-old woman was shot on the 200 block of E. Indiana Avenue in Fairhill. She is in critical condition. At 9 p.m. a man was shot on the 2500 block of Ridge Avenue in North Philadelphia. He is in stable condition.
