A Winslow Township Police Officer is being called a hero after he saved an elderly woman from her burning apartment in Sicklerville, NJ, on Saturday night, 3/20. It happened around 9 p.m. at the Edgewood Acres apartment complex at the corner of Church Road and Sickler Avenue. Officer Jarel Ferren was on patrol and saw flames coming from the rear sliding door of an apartment. He called in the fire and then entered the building through the first floor. "There was heavy black smoke coming out of the door. And as I was going up it sounded like an elderly woman quietly saying, 'Help,'" he said. His body cam shows him pulling the woman outside to safety. She was taken to he hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and burns, but she is expected to be ok. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Three men were robbed of $300,000 worth of jewelry outside of a nightclub in Center City early Monday morning, 3/22. It happened around 12:55 a.m. outside Byblos Restaurant and Hookah Bar near 18th and Chestnut Streets in Rittenhouse Square. Two men approached the victims outside the club. One of them was armed. They stole the men's watches, rings and necklaces. The suspects fled on foot. They were wearing dark clothing and back face masks. No one was injured. No arrests have been made.

The School District of Philadelphia opened 35 additional schools on Monday, 3/22, to in-person classes for PreK-2nd Grade students. The students will be operating on a hybrid schedule with 2 days in school and 3 days virtual. The first 53 schools opened last Monday, March 8. The second 45 schools opened Monday, March 15. Mayfair Elementary School opened March 8 and has already closed temporarily due to COVID-19 protocols. They could reopen to in-person classes April 1. The school district is opening the buildings in waves as they are approved through a mediation process with the teacher's union. The school district announced the next 22 schools that will open on April 5 (see the list below).
