Firefighters in Camden, New Jersey, were shook by an explosion while battling a 3-alarm fire early Wednesday morning, 3/10. Video from the Merchantville Fire Department captures the moment when the third floor suddenly exploded. The fire happened just after midnight on the 3400 block of Cramer Street. This particular building had been an apartment building, but it had been abandoned and boarded up after a deadly fire last October (see article). Two people died and nine were injured in that October 25, 2020 fire. It was intentionally set by a homeless man. 34-year-old Brandon Adams has been charged with first-degree murder in that case. The cause of this fire is still under in investigation. Despite the explosion, no one was injured.

Four people were shot, including the shooter, when a man fired into a crowd in Kensington on Wednesday evening. It happened around 6:30 p.m. on the 800 block of East Allegheny Avenue. Police say that the shooter just fired into a crowd of more than a dozen people outside a takeout restaurant. Three people were struck. A 23-year-old man was shot multiple times and is in critical condition. A 39-year-old man and a 42-year-old man were each hit in the arm. They are in stable condition. A second shooter returned fire and hit the first gunman. The first shooter was hit in the knee. That 37-year-old suspect was taken into custody and transported to the hospital in stable condition. The second shooter fled the scene.

"You can clearly see a male firing multiple shots into a crowd of about 15 people that were standing out front of a takeout restaurant in the 800 block of East Allegheny. Then you see a second shooter firing shots at the first shooter," Philadelphia Police Chief Insp. Scott Small said.

A man wanted for a deadly hit-and-run in the Fairhill section of the city last week has turned himself in to police. 44-year-old Edward Prince, also known as Jamil Smith, is being held for homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and related charges. It happened just after 11 p.m. last Wednesday, 3/3, along the 3300 block of North 2nd Street at Ontario Street. 60-year-old Roberto Oquendo, who is deaf and non-verbal, was crossing 2nd Street when he was struck by a dark-colored SUV. He was then dragged 300 feet down the road. Surveillance video was used to track the vehicle down.
