New CDC Guidance for the Vaccinated; Bomb Threat at Philly Federal Court; Philly Students Returned

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have released new guidance related to how vaccinated people can gather with others. The CDC says that vaccinated people can now gather with other vaccinated people indoors without a mask or social distancing. They also say that vaccinated people can gather with people who are in the same household who are considered low risk for severe disease. They give the example of vaccinated grandparents visiting with young gradchildren. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky called this a "first step" to a return to normalcy. More approved activities for vaccinated individuals will be announced as cases/deaths go down and vaccinations go up. The CDC still recommends everyone to wear a mask and socially distance when out in public. You are considered 'fully vaccinated' two weeks after your final dose.

The federal court house in Philadelphia was evacuated on Monday morning, 3/8, after threats were made. Police received an anonymous call around 10:30 a.m. that an explosive device had been left at the courthouse. Market Street between 6th and 7th Streets was also shut down in addition to the evacuation. The scene was cleared and the ATF said that no suspicious device was found.

PreK - 2nd grade students at 53 elementary schools across Philadelphia walked in to school buildings for classes for the first time in nearly a full year. The schools have undergone a transformation to ensure that students, teachers, and staff are safe. Students are on a hybrid schedule. They come in-person twice a week, and learn virtually the other three days. The School District of Philadelphia will be opening up around 50 schools per week. The focus has been on the youngest students, who benefit most from in-person instruction. Eventually all grades will return, but there is no timeline yet. The school district announced 45 schools that will reopen for classes next Monday, March 15. They are:
