Suspect ID'd In Hit-and-Run of Deaf Man; Abington Shooting, Suspect Dead; 40 Displaced in DE Fire

Philadelphia Police have identified the suspect wanted for a fatal hit-and-run of a 60-year-old deaf man in North Philadelphia last week. 44-year-old Edward Prince of Olney, also known as Jamil Smith, is wanted for homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and other charges. It happened on Wednesday, 3/3, after 11 p.m. on the on the 3300 block of North 2nd Street. Roberto Oquendo Velez was crossing the street at at 2nd and Ontario Streets when he was struck and then dragged 300 feet. Police say that Prince was driving the speeding dark blue 2001 to 2005 GMC Envoy or Yukon that hit Velez. If you have any information, call 911 or 215-686-8477.

Abington Township Police found the body of a man suspected of shooting a woman early Sunday morning, 3/7. The shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. The female victim was found lying in the intersection of Miriam and Arline Avenues. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Hours later, police found the suspect dead in his car. Police believe that he took his own life. The investigation is ongoing.

Several dozen people are without a home after a two-alarm fire tore through an apartment complex in New Castle County, Delaware, early Sunday morning, 3/7. It happened around 4:30 a.m. at the Valley Run Apartments on the 1000 block of Stevens Place in Claymont. Dozens of trucks and over 50 firefighters were on the scene. 40 people were displaced by the fire and 18 apartments were damaged. Many people lost everything. No one was injured. The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Philadelphia 76ers Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons have been ruled out of tonight's NBA All-Star game. Both players were identified through contact tracing as having close contacts with a barber in Philadelphia who has tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. The two players have tested negative themselves, but cannot play the game due to NBA protocols. Embiid was voted as a starter and Simmons was selected as a reserve. They would have played on opposite teams. Philadelphia head coach Doc Rivers is going to coach Team Durant.
