Officials in Montgomery County are investigating after a man armed with a sword was shot and killed by police on Tuesday evening, 2/9. It happened around 7:30 p.m. on East 8th Street near Long Alley in Pennsburg. Police responded to a 911 call from a family member about a distressed person. Upper Perkiomen police say that the man was threatening an officer with a sword. The officer opened fire after the man did not follow commands to drop the weapon and advanced on the officer. The officer tried to render first aid but the man died at the scene. No further details are available at this time. The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office is investigating.

UPDATE: The man has been identified as 27-year-old Trey Bartholomew.

A man is being investigated for fraud after claiming to have been displaced by a fire at an apartment building in Chester County last month. The fire happened at Victory Brewing on the 600 block of West Cypress Street on January 26. There was an explosion and fire at the first floor taproom. The building also contains several floors of apartments and residents were displaced due to the incident. Kennett Square police say that a suspect is being investigated for possible theft by deception. The unnamed suspect claimed to be a victim of the fire and raised money with the help of his employer, friends, and members of the local YMCA. If you are a victim of this fraud contact police.
