The U.S. House of Representatives voted on a resolution on Tuesday evening, 1/12, calling on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Trump from office. The vote was 223 to 205. The resolution called on the vice president to declare "that the President is unable to successfully discharge the duties and powers of his office" and to "immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President." Prior to the vote, Pence had already sent Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi a letter saying he would not remove the President from office. "I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our nation or consistent with our Constitution," Mr. Pence wrote. "I urge you and every member of Congress to avoid actions that would further divide and inflame the passions of the moment."

On Wednesday afternoon, 1/13, the House is currently debating President Trump's 2nd impeachment. Trump is facing one article of impeachment "incitement of insurrection" for his role in encouraging last Wednesday's, 1/6, riot at the Capitol. (see the full impeachment article below) A second impeachment won't immediately remove him from office, he must be convicted in the Senate and they are out of session until 1/19. President Trump will leave office next Wednesday on January 20. A Senate trial can still be held after he is out of office, but the Senate also has many confirmation hearings for President-elect Biden's nominees. If convicted, Trump wouldn't be allowed to run for office again. About 6 Republican Senators say they would vote to convict, but that is not nearly enough.

UPDATE: The House of Representatives has voted to impeach President Donald Trump for the second time on the article of "incitement of insurrection." The vote was 232-197-4. 10 Republican lawmakers voted with the Democrats to indict the President.

State Capitals in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware are on alert after the FBI circulated a memo warning of "armed protests" in all 50 states between January 16 and Inauguration Day on January 20. In Harrisburg, the House Police, Senate Police, and Capitol Police are prepared for any protests. All Senate Capitol and District Offices will be closed from 5 p.m. 1/15 to 8 a.m. 1/21. The Capitol plaza will be closed 1/18-20. In Trenton, the New Jersey State Police is in charge of the Capitol. They are working with all federal and state law enforcement agencies. In Dover, the Delaware Capitol Police has increased security.

President Donald Trump released a statement on Wednesday, 1/13, saying: "In light of reports of more demonstrations, I urge that there must be NO violence, NO lawbreaking and NO vandalism of any kind. That is not what I stand for and it is not what America stands for. I call on ALL Americans to help ease tensions and calm tempers. Thank you."
