The 2021 Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade this March will be postposed once again due to coronavirus COVID-19. The 2020 parade was the first major event to be cancelled last March at the onset of the pandemic. Last July, all events in Philadelphia were cancelled through February 2021. The vaccine will not be widely distributed to the general public until the spring and summer. Until then, we may continue to see the postponement events.

Statement from parade organizers:
"After heartfelt consideration, the St. Patrick's Day Observance Association has made the decision to cancel the 2021 Philadelphia Saint Patrick's Day Parade and all events related to the parade. This decision was made with significant consideration to the challenges and concerns that we continue to face with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite our love and excitement for our parade and celebration of St. Patrick, the safety and well-being of organizers, volunteers, participants, and spectators is our number one priority at this time.

“Despite our love and excitement for our parade and celebration of St. Patrick, the safety and well-being of organizers, volunteers, participants, and spectators is our number one priority at this time.
We will continue with great enthusiasm to plan the 250th Saint Patrick's Day Parade for March 13, 2022.”

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a woman was shot during an attempted robbery outside of a popular South Philadelphia sandwich shop early Tuesday morning, 1/5. It happened around 3:25 a.m. outside John's Roast Pork on the unit block of Snyder Ave near Columbus Blvd. The 20-year-old victim was shot in the foot. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police found two shell casings at the scene. They are currently searching for the shooter.

A 16-year-old boy is under arrest for the shooting death of a 23-year-old woman in her Norristown, Montgomery County, on Sunday, 1/3. Victor Bell Jr. is charged with third-degree murder, possessing an instrument of crime, and manslaughter. Around 1:30 p.m., police found Diamond Rahatt with a single gunshot to the head inside her home on the 1400 block of Markley Street. She was rushed to the hospital where she died from her injuries. Investigators found a .40 caliber Springfield Arms firearm next to her body on the bed. A bullet mark was on the wall and a casing was found in the room. They say the Bell and Rahatt were longtime friends. Bell posted a video to social media shortly before the shooting showing himself playing around with the gun. He was denied bail and remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

"Diamond Rahatt had her whole life ahead of her - a life cut short by the reckless handling of a gun. The death of this young woman is a tragedy, and our hearts and prayers go out to her family," Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said. "The defendant was playing around and taking photos with a loaded gun without any regard for the danger and threat to human life the behavior posed. It was reckless and now a young woman is dead."
