A Winter Weather Watch is in effect from Wednesday morning through Thursday morning. Our area will experience a major winter storm during this period with heavy snow and gusty winds. It will start midday on Wednesday 12/16. Areas north of I-95 could see over 12"+ of snow. Areas south will see 6" or less. Totals in Philadelphia could be around 6-8" with more in the northern and western suburbs. There will also be gusty winds at 35 mph and travel will be difficult late on Wednesday. Power outages are possible. The system will clear out overnight into Thursday morning.

Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Philadelphia officials are all reporting that they received initial doses of Pfizer's coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, 12/14. They'll continue to receive shipments during this week. The vaccine is being distributed to hospitals and healthcare systems within each state that have the capability to store this particular vaccine at super cold temperatures. The Moderna vaccine, which will go before a panel for recommendation this Thursday, 12/17, only requires normal refrigeration. The first to receive the vaccine will be health care workers and long-term care residents. Then essential workers and vulnerable populations will get it. The general population won't have a chance to get a vaccine until at least the spring. On Monday, the United States passed 300,000 who have died from this disease.

The Electoral College met today to cast their votes for President and Vice President of the United States. In Pennsylvania, the state's 20 electors met in Harrisburg and formally selected Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. In Delaware, the state's 3 electors met in Wilmington to cast their votes for the hometown team. New Jersey's 14 electors also placed their votes for Biden/Harris. The former Vice President exceeded the 270 electoral votes necessary nationally to secure the Presidency. The final step in the election process happening on January 6th when Congress officially counts the electoral votes.

Sports
Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has been named the starter for Sunday's upcoming matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cleveland Indians of Major League Baseball announced on Monday, 12/14, that they will be changing the nickname of the franchise and removing "Indians." In a statement they said they "decided to move forward with changing the current team name and determining a new, non-Native American based name for the franchise." The team said they came to the decision after conducting a process to study how the name impacted different communities. They will still use the name through 2021. The major league franchise was established in Cleveland in 1901 as a charter member of the new American League as the Cleveland Bluebirds. It wasn't until 1915 that they were dubbed the Indians.
