PA Gov Wolf Tests Positive for COVID-19; Philly Police Shoot Man w/ Knife; Mayor Kenny in Quarantine

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announced on Wednesday, 12/9, that he tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19 following a routine test on Tuesday, 12/8. He says that he is felling well and does not have any symptoms, but is in isolation at home. His wife, Frances, has been tested and is also in isolation with the governor awaiting her test result. He is continuing in his duties as governor remotely. Despite appearing to follow all of the guidelines, Wolf still became infected. He said all the precautions in place are not a guarantee against infection, no one is immune, but continuing to wear masks, social distance, and stay home will help stop the spread.

He released this statement:
"During a routine test yesterday, I tested positive for COVID-19. I have no symptoms and am feeling well. I am following CDC and Department of Health guidelines. Frances has been tested and, as we await the result, is quarantining at home with me.

I am continuing to serve the commonwealth and performing all of my duties remotely, as many are doing during the pandemic.

As this virus rages, my positive test is a reminder that no one is immune from COVID, that following all precautions as I have done is not a guarantee, but it is what we know to be vital to stopping the spread of the disease and so I ask all Pennsylvanians to wear a mask, stay home as much as possible, socially distance yourself from those not in your household, and, most of all, take care of each other and stay safe."

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a man armed with a knife was shot and critically injured by police in the Feltonville section on Wednesday morning, 12/9. It happened around 11 a.m. on the 4700 block of Rorer Street. Police were called to a report of a man with a weapon. When they arrived they found a man at the door of a home. Officers told the man to turn around and show his hands. The man turned around and pulled out a knife. Officers told him several times to drop the knife. When he did not comply, the officers tasered him multiple times, but it did not stop him and he continued to come at them. That's when one of the officers opened fire. The man was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney also announced on Tuesday, 12/8, that he is in quarantine for a second time after having recent contact with a person who tested positive. Kenney had contact with a person back in September and had to isolate at home at that time. "I am currently quarantining at home after being exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. I am free of any symptoms and plan to get tested soon. If you find yourself in a similar situation, do the right thing and self-quarantine," Kenney said. He is following the new CDC guidelines to quarantine for 10 days or 7 days with a negative test.
