The Philadelphia Department of Public Health says that the city could have a coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine available as soon as next week. Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley said on Tuesday, 12/8, that if the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine gets approval, then Philadelphia is prepared to start offering it as soon as possible. The FDA will hold a debate on Thursday, 12/10, with a panel of independent scientists to review whether the vaccine is safe and effective enough to take. Moderna's vaccine is set to be reviewed for approval next Thursday, 12/17. If that is approved, it will become available the following week. "With both of these vaccines, we will have limited doses, and our first priority group is going to be health care workers who are routinely exposed to coronavirus," Farley said. "And we'll widen the groups that gets the vaccine as more vaccine becomes available in the coming weeks and months." Philadelphia is set to get shipments of the vaccine directly from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The city also has access to the supercooled freezers necessary to store the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine.

Police are searching for a man who called in a bomb threat at Delaware casino last week. It happened on Thursday, 12/3, at the Delaware Park Casino in Wilmington. The suspect used a phone on the casino's property to report a bomb at 3:30 a.m. No bomb was found. Police release a photo of the suspect and car (see below). If you have any information, contact Detective David Hanich at 302-535-6380.

Two community police officers went above the call of duty to help a Port Richmond grandmother who was scammed while trying to fix her roof. 70-year-old Hatixhe Halite of Belgrade Street had a big roof problem. It had sunken in and was open to the weather. Halite paid someone $500 to fix it, but the person took the money and never returned. She filed a police report in October. Community Officer Cynthia Padua and her partner Officer Ryan Barksdale wanted to find a way to help. "Every night I went home when it was raining and I couldn't stop thinking about her, like 'oh my gosh her roof is open,' she pretty much has all rainwater on her floor," said Padua. They were able to temporarily patch the roof and found the Clarence E. Smith Roofing company, who did the repair for free.
