A West Chester man has been arrested for attempted homicide after his girlfriend's 9-year-old daughter was found severely beaten and unconscious in her Westtown Township home on Monday night, 11/23. 34-year-old Dimitrios Moscharis is charged with Attempted Homicide, Strangulation, Aggravated Assault, Possessing an Instrument of Crime, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, False Imprisonment and other related charges. The child's mother, Julianne Lewis, was out driving for Lyft when she received a text from Moscharis to come home immediately. She found her daughter unconscious, wet, and fully clothed in the bathtub. The two pulled her out and she began CPR while he called 911. First responders noticed she had bruising new and old all over her body. She was taken to Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington and is in critical condition. Officials say she "likely has brain damage due to oxygen deprivation for an extended period of time," indicating strangulation or suffocation. Lewis and Moscharis had been dating for two months. She said he would use a curtain rod to hit the girl. Moscharis is being held without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on November 30.

"What this child endured is unconscionable. The defendant's depravity is beyond words and comprehension. It is the kind of criminal action that is devastating to our community and parents alike. A seasoned child abuse detective said that the child's bruising all over her body was the worst he's ever seen in his career. My office vows to seek full justice for the victim child with maximum punishment for the defendant," Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said.

Three more juveniles are being charged with the beating death of a homeless man in Camden, NJ, last summer. The Camden County Prosecutor's Office has charged a 12-year-old, 13-year-old, and 14-year-old with first degree murder and second-degree conspiracy to commit aggravated assault in the death of 63-year-old Bobby J. Hill Jr. Hill was found unresponsive in the early morning hours of June 25 in an alleyway near 1100 block of Kaighn Avenue. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner determined he died from blunt force trauma. A 15-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl were also charged with murder back in June. Surveillance footage shows the children entering the alleyway with Hill and leaving without him a few minutes later. Video of Hill's body after the assault was found on one of the teen's cell phones.
