Attempted Abduction in Darby; Man Killed by Steamroller in Ridley; St Joe's Prep Pauses In-Person

Police in Darby Township, Delaware County have located the vehicle and identified three suspects in an attempted child abduction from Tuesday, 9/15. It happened around 3:45 p.m. near Tribbett Avenue and Hermesprota Drive at Hermesprota Park. The vehicle was described as a white GMC Savana van with black spray paint on the back and red spray paint on the passenger side. The driver got out of the vehicle and approached an 8-year-old girl. He reportedly told the passenger, "Let's grab her." The girl was able to run away. "We are deeply appreciative of the cooperative and collaborative effort of the citizens we serve. This is an ongoing investigation and we will keep you as apprised as we can without hindering it," police said. The three suspects were questions and released. No charges have been filed. Police are investigating after a construction worker was struck and killed by a steamroller in Ridley Park, Delaware County on Wednesday morning, 9/16. It happened on the 400 block of Free Street near Ridley Park Middle School. Crews were working on a sidewalk and paving project contracted by Ridley Park Borough. The identity of the worker has not been released and circumstances surrounding the accident are not yet known.

St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia is suspending in-person classes after students tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. The school was informed that two students tested positive for the virus. They were last at the school on September 3 and 9. After consulting with the Philadelphia Department of Health, St. Joe's Prep has decided to suspend in-person instruction until Thursday, September 24. Learning will move to all-virtual instruction. All co-curricular activities and sports are also suspended until 9/24. Hybrid learning will return on 9/24 with the Grey Group in-person; the Crimson Group will return in-person Monday, September 28.

The Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors voted unanimously to resume the football season starting the weekend of October 23-24. That would include both Penn State and Rutgers Universities. Individuals, teams, and the league will adhere to rigorous protocols to ensure the safety of all. Teams will play an 8 game schedule which has not been determined. Fans will not be allowed in the stands for Penn State games.
