Philadelphia officials posted notice at two homeless 'protest' encampments in the city on Monday, 8/17, giving them until 9 a.m. Tuesday, 8/18, to clear out. The larger one is located at 22nd Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway. It was started on June 10 and grew almost 150 people. A smaller one is located on Ridge Ave near the Philadelphia Housing Authority offices. "After several weeks of face-to-face discussions, and more than two months of concerted efforts by our administration, I have come to the conclusion that further negotiations would be fruitless," Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said in a statement. "I take this step again with a heavy heart, as a last resort, and in recognition of the growing health and safety concerns at the sites." The city had previously told the camp it would close on July 10, but negotiations resumed. The encampment started as a protest for homeless rights as well as racial inequity and police reform.

UPDATE: Fire was reported at the Philadelphia Housing Authority building at 20th and Chestnut Streets around 9 a.m. There were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.

A young boy eating ice cream standing next to an ice cream truck was struck and seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver in Philadelphia on Sunday night, 8/16. It happened around 9:30 p.m. on the 6600 block of Keystone Street in the Tacony section. The 4-year-old boy was standing near the truck with his father when a silver vehicle sped around the truck and hit the child. The boy was then dragged down the street by the vehicle, which fled the scene. The child was taken to Christopher's Hospital for Children in critical condition. Police are looking into surveillance video in the area. If you have any information call police at 215-686-TIPS.

A teen was shot in his vehicle after picking up a pizza in North Philadelphia early Monday morning, 8/17. It happened around 1:30 a.m. at 7th Street and Girard Avenue. The 19-year-old male victim was sitting inside his vehicle when shots rang out from another car. The suspect crashed into a parked car on the 800 block of Girard and the fled the scene. The suspect's vehicle is white or silver with front end damage. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
