DE Amber Alert Off, Cristobal Lopez Found; Man Had Broken Bottle When Shot; Red Paw Relief Stopping

The Amber Alert for a young Delaware boy has been canceled after authorities found him safe in Southern California. 2-year-old Crisobal Lopez disappeared from his home in Georgetown, DE, on July 26. It is believed that his mother, 25-year-old Angelina Lopez, took him. Crisobal lives with his mother's cousin. Angelina has a court order that prevents her from having contact with her son unless it is pre-approved and supervised. She made arrangements with her cousin to see the baby and then stay the night. The mother and child disappeared overnight. Investigators determined that child had been transported to Pasadena, CA. The Pasadena Police department executed a search warrant on Friday, 8/7, on the 600 block of Los Robles Ave and discovered the child. The mother was not there and is still on the loose. Angelina is wanted for felony breach of release.

A man who was acting "erratically" and carrying a broken glass bottle was shot and killed by police officers from Ventnor and Atlantic City on Thursday afternoon, 8/6, after he advanced on officers while carrying the bottle. It happened around 4:15 p.m. near Wellington and West End avenues. New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal's office says officers were called to the report of a man acting "erratically." The man was found walking in and out of a marshy area near the road and holding the broken bottle. Police tried to offer him help and asked him repeatedly to drop the bottle. He continued to walk back and forth and did not comply with officers' commands. After about 15 mintues, the attorney general's office said, the man "advanced on officers with the broken bottle in his hand and multiple officers fired their weapons." He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. He was pronounced dead at 6 p.m. The attorney general's office is investigating the shooting.

UPDATE: The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Amir Johnson of Wilkes Barre, PA.

Red Paw Emergency Relief announced that it will be discontinuing its services starting October 1. The non-profit organization has been operating for the past 9 years, saving thousands of animals from fires, floods, and other disasters. It was started by a firefighter and firefighters give their time to help save the animals. Lori Albright, chief operations officer, says they aren't shutting down because of money, but because the business model is not quite working. There are too many disasters and too many animals for crews to be out at every incident. "We believe that a successful model would be that our services would be integrated into the fire department. So firefighters are trained to do what we do, rather than us being a stand alone model as a nonprofit organization," she explained. Red Paw could take over with providing support to families after the pet is rescued.
