A recent high school graduate was found stabbed to death at a Montgomery County SEPTA train station and her ex-boyfriend has been arrested for the murder. 18-year-old Gilbert Newton III of Philadelphia is charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and possessing an instrument of crime in the death of 18-year-old Morgan Darlyn McCaffery of Abington Township. McCaffery was found next to her running car around 8 a.m. Monday, 7/27, at the Meadowbrook SEPTA Station on the 1400 block of Old Valley Road. She had died of more than 30 stab and slash wounds. Police found Newton in his Philadelphia home around 10 a.m. sitting in bloody clothes. They pair had broken off a yearlong relationship about a month ago and were at the train station to talk. Newton is being held with no bail.

UPDATE: Newtown III has a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, August 11.

"A young woman with her whole life ahead of her, just graduated from high school, was brutally stabbed to death," said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele. "This murder is a tragedy for her family, her friends and everyone who loved her. Sadly, we are seeing relationship violence and domestic violence far too often during this pandemic." McCaffery had attended Nazareth Academy.

The Philadelphia Phillies vs the New York Yankees game scheduled for Tuesday, 7/28, at Citizens Bank Park has been postponed due to coronavirus COVID-19 concerns amid an outbreak on the Miami Marlins. The game was postponed out of an abundance of caution. No Phillies players or coaches tested positive on tests taken on Monday. A second round of tests will be performed on Tuesday. Four more Marlins have tested positive, bringing the total to 15 players and 2 staff. They continue to quarantine in Philadelphia. The Phillies staff that worked in the visitors' clubhouse over the weekend with the Marlins are also in quarantine.

UPDATE: The Phillies/Yankees games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, 7/29-30, at Yankees Stadium have also been postponed. The Marlins games through Sunday have been postponed. The Marlins were scheduled to play the Baltimore Orioles Wed and Thurs and the Washington Nationals this weekend. The Yankees and Orioles will play each other on 7/28-29 in Baltimore instead.

The Delaware Department of Agriculture is reporting on a possible scam affecting residents of Delaware and other states. You may have received a package, possibly from China, containing a piece of cheap jewelry and a package of seeds. Do Not Plant the seeds. "It is believed that these shipments are part of a brushing scam where shippers send out low-cost items at their own expense in order to rank higher on e-commerce sites. Brushing helps the seller create a more legitimate appearance to their profiles," said the Delaware Department of Agriculture. This is also being reported in Pennsylvania, Kentucky and North Carolina. Officials do not know what the seeds are and warn that they could be an invasive species that could damage our environment and agricultural crops. If you receive a package like this (see photo below), contact the Smuggling Interdiction and Trade Compliance Program (SITC) by calling the Smuggling Hotline at 1-800-877-3835.
