PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES INTERNATIONAL STAGES FEATURING PERFORMERS FROM IRELAND, CANADA, WALES, SOUTH KOREA, AND SCOTLAND

Bringing the Total to more than 160 Artists for the 59th Annual Edition, August 13-16, 2020

'FEST IN PLACE' WITH PFF AS WE PRESENT OUR NEW MULTI-STREAM ONLINE DIGITAL FESTIVAL TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE @ FOLKFEST.ORG

(JULY 21, 2020 - PHILADELPHIA) The Philadelphia Folk Festival announces International partners adding 55 performers to the already stacked lineup to present a Brand New Global Digital Edition of the Festival! Join PFF over the weekend of August 13-16, and hear performers from Culture Ireland, the National Arts Centre Canada, Showcase Scotland Expo, Home Routes / Chemin Chez Nous (Canada), SORI (South Korea), and Wales Arts International. The Philadelphia Folk Festival is pleased to be able to offer viewers a brand new, immersive and interactive musical experience from the comfort of their home or bubble. Audiences will watch performances on the virtual representations of Philly Folk Fest's favourite stages - the Martin Guitar, Camp and the Front Porch - these stages will literally come alive with music for 12 hours a day, featuring 165 performers from 8 countries. After 59 years of festing in person, this year, PFF invites you to "Fest in place" with us. This shift to a digital experience dashes geographical constraints and opens our doors in a new way, welcoming in our global partners and performers.

The addition of the international stages adds an exciting new dimension to this year's event. "I am thrilled to have a dedicated stage with country-specific curated programming this year. Being able to present some of the finest artists from across the world and put a digital arm around our global partners is incredibly rewarding" says Festival and Programming Director, Lisa Schwartz. "I believe that music is what connects us and we could all use a positive reminder right now that we are all in this storm together. So, creating an event that can be enjoyed from anywhere in the world where there is internet, I hope will go a long way to bringing our community closer, especially at a time when we are forced to be apart.

"With so many musicians having to cancel long planned tours and gigs and having their ability to earn a living completely gutted, it occurred to me that perhaps there was a way that I could help artists from other countries to increase their visibility and grow their fanbase in North America and elsewhere without having to travel. It is so important to give the artists something to focus on and get excited about until they can play gigs again. The music and culture of these countries is so rich and so vibrant, it is meant to be shared and I am certain that our audience is going to love it!"

PFF is thrilled to be able to present a truly international collaboration and celebration of music, and is excited to announce the following partners and performers on the PFF Camp Stage:

About HOW PFF59 digital fest will work: This year's Inaugural Global Digital Edition is possible due to PFFs partnership with Mountain View Staging, who have more than 20 years experience presenting digital events and conferences. MVS has created a platform for audiences to enjoy multiple stages, fully integrated chat features, campfire open mics, ZOOM campsites, crafts and merchandise tents. Viewers will be able to watch all stages and all performances from the comfort of their home, bubble, or virtually anywhere on a mobile device. For those not tech savvy, PFF is providing "how to" information on "how to set up your device" and "how to get the best Fest experience" in advance of the weekend, allowing audiences to test their setups before the weekend. Viewers will even have the option to pause, stop and rewind the show (similar to 'pay per view' and 'on demand'). As a special bonus ALL #PFF59 footage will be available for SEVEN DAYS POST FEST! Stay Safe, Fest in Place
Fest in place with us from August 13-16, while the Philadelphia Folksong Society does the unthinkable by bringing the vibrant experience of North America's oldest continuously run outdoor music festival to the digital world. With social distancing and safety concerns threatening to derail a decades-long tradition, this folk community responded - as it always has - with ingenuity, compassion, and the indomitable spirit of people-power.

While the technology to deliver this year's event may be brand new, the indomitable spirit and culture is nearly six decades old. Since its inception, the Philadelphia Folk Festival has been produced nearly exclusively by tireless volunteers. Sheer determination and moxie led to the first event on Wilson Farm in September of '62, and the same can be said of this year's 59th version. This year we're able to welcome our extended Folk Family from around the world, simultaneously continuing vital traditions while creating entirely new ways of connecting and communing.
