According to the Census Bureau, Philadelphia and the surrounding counties' population all continued to grow since the 2010 National census. The 2010 Census was the first since 1950 that Philadelphia showed an increase. From April 2010 to July 2011 they estimate that the population of Philadelphia County had an increase of 10,465 people or a +0.7 percent jump. The new estimates took into account numbers of birth vs. death records, as well as migration data such people moving into vs moving away from the county. Migration was about even with a net loss of 650. New births account for most of the added population. Every other county in the region also saw population increases, except Camden which was -0.1%. Chester was the largest at +1.0%.

Virgin America will now offer daily nonstop service to Los Angeles and San Francisco from Philadelphia, competing with US Airways. Virgin flights are known for their style, tech, and affordability offering Live TV and internet and cheap fares (around $159 each way). Last night a star studded launch party was held at the Hotel Palomar in Center City. Virgin's chief, Sir Richard Branson was there, director M. Night Shyamalan, DJ Jazzy Jeff, actors Seth Green and Terrence Howard, Boyz II Men singer Nate Morris, food network host Marc Summers, model Amber Rose, reality star Jon Gosselin, and various members of the eagles and flyers were also on hand.

In Sports, On Opening Day the Phillies beat the Pirates 1-0 out in Pittsburgh. Halladay pitched 8 scoreless with 5 SO, giving up 2 hits. Carlos Ruiz drive in the only run on a Sac fly in the 7th innging. Jonathan Papelbon recorded the save for the Phillies.

Mostly clear skies tonight and cool temperatures this evening around 50, dropping down to 38 overnight.
