Councilman At-Large David Oh announced on Thursday, 6/11, that he will be introducing a budget amendment on Monday, June 15, that would restore the Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy and the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. It would also increase funding to Parks and Recreation, the Free Library, African American Museum, Greater Philadelphia Film Office, and Citizen Diplomacy International.

Statement from Councilman Oh on Proposed Budget Amendment:

"On Monday I will be introducing a $20.8 million amendment to the budget proposal. The amendment applies unused soda tax funds and the recession fund to achieve the following:

- Sends an additional $8.7 million to Parks and Recreation, and an additional $6.2 million to the Free Library of Philadelphia to preserve staff positions and restore some core services. $10 million of this will be taken from unspent money given to OHS from Pre-K.

- Restores funding for the Office of the Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Philadelphia Cultural Fund, and African American Museum, and the Greater Philadelphia Film Office at a cost of a little over $4.2 million.

- Provides $1.7 million to the Department of Commerce to restore staff cuts that will be used to manage grant funds devoted to restoring the city's economy, and fund Citizens Diplomacy International.

Additionally, I will continue to work to identify savings resulting from the City's COVID-19 related shutdown M the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2020. The saving estimates range from $21 million to $44 million and could be used to replace the money I seek to transfer and restore further cuts to core services and programs."
