Some DE Businesses to Reopen 5/8; Wildwood Beach/Boardwalk to Reopen; Justice Ginsberg Hospitalized

Delaware Governor John Carney announced on Tuesday, 5/5, that starting Friday, 5/8, at 8 a.m. some businesses in the state will be allowed to resume limited operations while maintaining adherence to health an safety guidelines. "Together we've been able to flatten this curve and now we need to follow through, follow the instructions, as we gradually reopen our economy," Carney said. Small businesses including clothing stores; shoe stores; sporting goods, hobby, musical instrument stores; book, periodical, music stores; department stores; tobacco and vape shops; Other general merchandise; office supply, stationery, and gift stores; used merchandise stores; and rental consumer goods can operate using curbside pickup. Jewelry stores can operate by appointment only. Hair salons can open only to serve essential workers. Salon employees and patrons must wear masks at all times among other restrictions. Golfers can use carts with only one rider per cart. Drive-in movie theaters can open, but patrons must stay in their cars.

North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello and Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron announced on Tuesday, 5/5, that the boardwalk, beaches, parks, and playgrounds will reopen on Friday, May 8. Rosenello reiterated state guidelines, "Walking, running, operating a wheelchair, or engaging in outdoor activities with immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners while following best social distancing practices with other individuals, including staying six feet apart. When in public, individuals must practice social distancing and stay six feet apart whenever practicable, excluding immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners." Stationary or large group activities are not permitted. Wildwood Crest reopened the beach, parks, and bike path on May 2. The two towns also announced that short-term or transient rentals may resume effective Tuesday, May 26, 2020.



US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg was hospitalized on Tuesday, 5/5, with an infection caused by a gallstone. She underwent a non-surgical treatment for acute cholecystitis, a benign gallbladder condition. The 87-year-old is at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She is expected to stay in the hospital for another day or two. The Supreme Court has been hearing arguments this week remotely over the telephone. Ginsberg participated both Monday and Tuesday. She plans on continuing to participate in the telephone hearings from her hospital room on Wednesday.
