Two teen girls were struck by a beach patrol vehicle while lying on the beach in Ship Bottom on Saturday, 5/2. It happened on the 26th Street Beach around 1p.m. The girls, 14 and 15, were airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center with lower body injuries, but have since been released to their families. 22-year-old John Purdon of Barnegat, NJ, was driving the vehicle at the time. He has been charged with reckless driving. The two girls are from Pennsylvania. Beaches in Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island are only open to residents and property owners as of April 24th. In order to access the beach for walking or jogging, you must carry an 'emergency re-entry placard.' Those placards were first distributed after Superstorm Sandy to facilitate returning to the island after the disaster and updated ones were mailed out earlier this year. It is not clear if the girls had a placard, but lying on the beach is not a permitted activity.

An argument between two neighbors ended deadly in North Philadelphia on Friday night, 5/1. It happened around 8:30 p.m. on the 1600 block of West Allegheny Avenue. Police say that the two men had an ongoing dispute. During the argument one man stabbed the other in the face. The 60-year-old victim was taken to Temple University Hospital where he died from his injuries. The neighbor was arrested.

A Montgomery County man was hospitalized after a gas explosion in his home on Saturday afternoon, 5/2. It happened around 4:30 p.m. on the 2900 block of New Hanover Square Road in Gilbertsville. Multiple fire companies arrived to the scene. They were able to contain the fire to the basement and first floor of the house. The man's condition is not known. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
