PA Supreme Court Tosses Gun Store Lawsuit; Villanova/Temple Cancel Commencement; Rite Aid Test Site

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit filed a by a gun shop that challenged Governor Tom Wolf's authority to close businesses deemed 'non life-sustaining.' The majority, without comment, denied the petition brought by a gun shop, a gun purchaser, and a law firm. The suit argued that Wolf's order violated the Second Amendment right to bear arms and other constitutional rights. Wolf ordered all but certain 'life-sustaining' businesses to close in order to help stop the spread of coronavirus COVID-19. In a dissenting statement, Justice David Wecht called on Wolf to make provisions in his order for the in-person sale of firearms. He said that the order amounts to "an absolute and indefinite prohibition upon the acquisition of firearms by the citizens of this commonwealth - a result in clear tension with the Second Amendment" and the state constitution.

Villanova University announced that this year's on campus commencement ceremony scheduled for May 15 has been canceled. Plans are being made for a live streamed event to be held that day instead.

Temple University has also postponed their commencement ceremonies scheduled around May 7. They are also exploring options and will share more details on how graduation will be handled.

A drive-through testing facility opened on Monday in West Oak Lane. The testing site is located at 74th and Ogontz Avenues in the parking lot of Rite Aid. This location is only for first responders and health care workers. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m every day.
