A drive-through coronavirus COVID-19 testing site opened on Friday afternoon, 3/20, outside Citizen's Bank Park in South Philadelphia. The Community Based Testing Site will be open from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. each day as long as supplies last. The testing site is open to the public and a doctor's note or prescription is not necessary, however, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health is restricting eligibility to testing at this time to certain groups of people:

- People who are over 50 years of age AND are displaying symptoms consistent with COVID-19 coronavirus.

- Healthcare workers who are displaying symptoms consistent with COVID-19 coronavirus, including fever, cough, shortness of breath

- Hospital and doctors office staff with direct patient contact

- Nursing home staff with direct patient contact

- People who perform Emergency Medical Services duties
- Home healthcare staff with direct patient contact

If you do not fall into one of these groups, expect to be turned away from this testing facility. There will probably be a wait when you arrive. Although they are not required, it is helpful to have your government-issued ID card, health care facility ID card, and insurance card. Also, no walk-ins. You must arrive in a in four-wheel, closed-top, non-commercial, non-recreational vehicles. If you believe you need to be tested and have symptoms, see your doctor. If you do not have a doctor or know the last physician/hospital that did see you, Find the nearest City Health Center here: https://www.phila.gov/departments/department-of-public-health/.

President Donald Trump has invoked the Defense Production Act in order to get medical supplies such as masks, ventilators, and protection gear to healthcare workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus COVID19 outbreak from the private sector. The U.S.-Mexico border has been closed to most travel except for trade. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has moved the federal Tax Day from April 15 to July 15 for filings and to make payments without interest or penalty. The White House also announced the suspension of interest on federally owned student loans. The Department of Education will not enforce standardized testing requirements for students in elementary through high school this school year.

Today, Friday, 3/20, was supposed to be the funeral for fallen Philadelphia Police Sergeant James O'Connor who was shot and killed one week ago while serving an arrest warrant in Frankford. Concerns for crowd size due to the coronavirus have postponed the funeral to a future date. The Philadelphia Police department still led a procession of hundreds of police vehicles through Sgt. O'Connor's neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia and past his home where his family gathered. The 46-year-old was posthumously promoted from Corporal to Sergeant this week. His alleged killer has been arrested and charged. O'Connor was married with two adult children.
