Eagles Cheerleader Advances on American Idol; THON Makes $11,696,942.38; Watch Kobe Bryant Memorial

A Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader earned his golden ticket to 'Hollywood' on American Idol on Sunday night, 2/23, by performing 'Mercy' by Shawn Mendes. 21-year-old Kyle Tanguay from Rochester, NH, is a senior dance major at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. This past season he became one of the first male Eagles' cheerleaders in 35 years and one of only a handful currently across the NFL. Tanguay had a lot of support when performing in front of judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. The entire cheer squad joined him during the audition. Despite never performing publically before, all three judges gave him a 'Yes' vote to send him on to the next round in Los Angeles.

Penn State University held their 43rd annual THON dance marathon that raises money to help children and families affected by pediatric cancer. The students danced for 46 hours in the Bryce Jordan Center located on Penn State's main campus in Happy Valley. This year the students raised $11,696,942.38 for the cause. Since the first THON in 1977, the annual fundraiser has now raised close to $181 million for the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital.

A memorial for Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and the 7 others killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on January 26 will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Monday, February 24 at 1 pm ET, 10 am PT. The 'Celebration of Life for Kobe and Gianna Bryant' will be carried on TV stations and multiple websites. You can also view a LIVE Streaming Broadcast of the ceremonies right here. Kobe Bryant played all 20 seasons in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers.
