Philadelphia authorities are investigating after the body of a woman was found in the basement of a South Philadelphia home on Thursday evening, 1/16. It happened around 5:10 p.m. on the 2100 block of Porter Street. The sheriff’s department went to the home to serve a robbery warrant to a female at the property. Officers from the Special Victims Unit were also there to investigate a human trafficking case. Sheriff Rochelle Bilal said, "They went into the basement and they found a decomposed body, appears to be of a female who was partially dismembered." Three men and two women in the house at the time have been taken in for questioning. SVU has been looking for a missing 18-year-old woman. They have not yet made an identification.

The alleged ringleader of the GoFundMe scam that raised $400,000 pled not guilty to federal charges on Thursday, 1/16. 40-year-old Mark D'Amico appeared in federal court in Camden, NJ, to face 16 counts of conspiracy, wire fraud, and money laundering. D'Amico, ex-girlfriend Katelyn McClure, and homeless vet Johnny Bobbitt have pled guilty to state charges. McClure and Bobbitt have pled guilty to federal charges. All three are accused of making up a 'feel good' story and scamming thousands of donors on the fundraising site. The federal charges come with maximum fines of $250,000 and maximum prison terms of up to 10 or 20 years a piece.

Sexual assault and related charges against a former Philadelphia police officer were dismissed on Thursday morning, 1/16. 28-year-old Novice Sloan was accused of attacking and drugging a woman inside his Northeast Philadelphia home on August 8th after a date. He was arrested in September. The judge ruled that there was not enough evidence in the case. The District Attorney's office is deciding on whether or not they will refile charges. Sloan has a separate hearing next week for a child pornography charge.
