A 16-year-old girl was killed in an accident involving a school bus and a passenger car in New Castle County, Delaware, on Thursday, 1/9. It happened around 3:40 p.m. near Memorial and Karlyn Drives. The bus was on Memorial Drive having just left Eisenberg Elementary School carrying approximately 20 children. It struck a passenger car with four 16-year-old girls. The car's driver, Jordan Tate, was killed. Another girl was critically injured and taken to the hospital. The other two girls were also taken to the hospital in stable condition. Two 10-year-old boys on the bus were taken to the hospital as a precaution with minor injuries and later released. Jordan was a student at William Penn High School and was involved in ROTC. Colonial School District says counselors will be available at district schools. The crash remains under investigation.

A mother of five was found dead inside her home in the Mayfair section on Thursday evening, 1/9. Police responded just before 7 p.m. to the 4100 block of Levick Street near Frankford Avenue. They discovered the back door had been kicked in and found the victim dead in an upstairs bedroom. 25-year-old Lexus Jawanda Brice had been shot in the neck. Initially, police thought she just had suffered blunt force trauma but later discovered the gun shot. They say there were signs of struggle in the room and believe that the victim knew her killer. Brice's mother had called police. She grew concerned after talking to her in the morning, but not hearing from her the rest of the day. Brice had two biological children and three foster children. There were not home at the time, but were being watched by a neighbor while the victim worked as a bus driver. No arrests have been made. If you have any information call police at 215-686-TIPS.

UPDATE:Brice was the mother of 3 foster children ages 13, 6 and 3 months. She did not have any biological children. The three foster children have been taken back by the Department of Human Services. Brice worked two jobs, one as a bus driver and another as a home healthcare worker. Police say that she was killed sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Thursday, 1/9. A 9mm shell casing was found in the bedroom. Brice is the registered owner of two handguns. Police say that both guns are 'unaccounted for.'

A New Jersey woman who pled guilty to killing her mother and grandmother in their shore condo has been sentenced to 42 years in prison. 43-year-old Heather Barbera pled guilty in October to aggravated manslaughter and murder in the deaths of 67-year-old Michelle Gordon and 87-year-old Elaine Rosen. In July 2018, Barbera used a nightstick to beat both women to death before she stole their credit cards and cash. It happened at the Vassar Square Condominiums at 4800 Boardwalk in Ventnor, NJ. Barbera then fled and took the bus to New York City where she was caught a few days later. She was originally charged with two counts of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. As part of the plea deal she must serve 40 years, 2 months before being eligible for parole.
