Philadelphia Police are now investigating after new video shows a large fight between Roxborough High School students on December 2nd along Ridge Ave. Male and Female students were involved in the melee. Students were seen throwing punches at one another. It started on the sidewalk and spilled into the street. Two female students who were fighting in the street were struck by a white van. Students also began to attack the van. Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew said that the fight was not reported to police, but the car accident was. Police were investigating it as a hit-and-run, but they now think the van did not flee the scene. Businesses along Ridge Ave say the students have been causing disturbances for a while. They are working with the school to find a solution. The School District of Philadelphia released a statement:

"The School District of Philadelphia has been made aware of the recent altercation between some Roxborough High School students, which occurred on Ridge Avenue on Monday, December 2. The District expects for all students to follow and abide by the Student Code of Conduct and failure to adhere will result in disciplinary action. The consequences for the students involved in the incident were addressed in alignment with District policy. School staff have been involved in ongoing conversations with the Roxborough Business Association about potential solutions to relieve the issues and help ensure neighborhood safety."

Philadelphia Fire crews fought a 2-alarm fire at a chemical plant in Southwest Philadelphia on Monday evening, 12/16. The fire broke out around 6:45 p.m. at Kinder Morgan's Point Breeze Terminal near 63rd Street and Passyunk Avenue. Fire was burning between two ethanol storage tanks. The facility was shutdown immediately and all personnel were evacuated. No injuries were reported. The fire was placed under control by 9:20 p.m. Some product did leak, but it was contained to the area adjacent to the tank. No word on the cause of the fire. "The appropriate regulatory agencies are being notified, and an investigation into the cause of the fire will be conducted," said Kinder Morgan in a statement.

NJ legislators passed several controversial bills on Monday, 12/16, heading in to the end of the year. A super-majority in both the Assembly and Senate passed a proposed ballot question to legalize recreational marijuana. The referendum will appear on the 2020 ballot. The question asks voters if they would approve recreational cannabis for adults age 21 and older. Marijuana products would be subject to the state's 6.625% sales tax. Towns could also pass their own local taxes. New Jersey would become the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana.

Lawmakers also passed a bill that would allow those without documents get driver's licenses in the state. Immigrants or others who do not have proper identifying documents will now be able to apply for driver's licenses. Proponents say that trained and licensed drivers make the roads safer. Opponents say that they are getting rewarded for breaking the law. The stringent requirements for the federal REAL ID will not change.
