First Snow in Philadelphia on Monday, Winter Warnings; Teen Dies in Car Crash; Woman Dies in Fire

Accumulating snow is now in the forecast across the region as part 2 of this early December storm begins to wind up heading into Monday, 12/2. The National Weather Service has now issued a Winter Storm Warning for Montgomery and Bucks County from 6 a.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday. This also includes Lehigh, Northampton, and counties north. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Chester, Delaware, Philadelphia, and South Jersey for 9 a.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday. Rain overnight will start to mix with sleet and freezing rain before changing back to all snow by the early afternoon. Philadelphia could see 2-4". A 19-year-old man was killed after he crashed into a utility pole in the city's Wynnefield Heights section. It happened just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday, 11/30, on the 4100 block of City Avenue. The Kansas City man was driving a blue Kia sedan when he lost control and slammed into the pole. He was killed instantly. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

An elderly woman died after a fire in her South Philadelphia row home on Sunday night, 12/1. It happened around 9:40 p.m. on the 1400 block of S. Clarion Street near Reed Street. Firefighters arrived to thick smoke pouring out of the two-story house. Around 50 firefighters were on scene to keep the fire from spreading. It was placed under control within 20 minutes. The 84-year-old woman was rushed to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arriving. The fire marshal is investigating the cause.
