A Maryland man who killed five members of a New Jersey family when his truck crossed the median of a Delaware highway and slammed head on with their mini van has been sentenced to one year of probation. 46-year-old Alvin Hubbard III of Cambridge pled guilty to five misdemeanor counts of operating a motor vehicle causing death and two misdemeanor counts of vehicular assault in June. The judge gave him the maximum combined sentence of 14 years but suspended the prison term for one year of probation. Authorities say that he was criminally negligent in operating his vehicle in July 2018 when he crossed the median, hit one passenger car, and then crashed into the family's van. The Trinidad family was returning from a beach vacation. 61-year-old Audie Trinidad and his four daughters: 20-year-old Kaitlyn, 17-year-old Danna, and 13-year-olds Melissa and Allison were killed. The mother, 53-year-old Mary Rose, survived. Others in the car were also injured.

An off duty police officer opened fire on two teenagers who attempted to steal his car at gunpoint early Saturday morning, 11/2. It happened after 2:30 a.m. Saturday on the 1000 block of West Chelten Avenue in East Oak Lane. The 18th District officer had just returned home from his shift and parked his truck. He was not wearing his uniform at the time. One 17-year-old armed with a gun approached the driver's side and second 17-year-old approached his passenger side and threatened him. The officer pulled out his personal firearm and fired two shots. The suspects were not hit and fled the scene. Police were able to take both teens into custody after a foot chase.

A former New Jersey fifth grade teacher has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for secretly recording young boys in the bathroom at summer camp. 40-year-old Thomas Guzzi Jr. of Pitman previously pled guilty to official misconduct, manufacturing child pornography and distributing child pornography files. Guzzi was a teacher at Winslow Elementary School in Vineland. He also worked as a stage manager for the Broadway Theatre summer camp. He used hidden cameras to video teenage boys in the restrooms at the camp. Guzzi won't be eligible for parole for 10 years.
