A high ranking member of the Philadelphia Police department was indicted by a grand jury on sexual assault charges. 54-year-old Chief Inspector Carl Holmes turned himself in to police on Thursday morning, 10/24. He was arrested and suspended 30 days with the intent to dismiss. Holmes is charged with the commission of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, and other sexual offenses. He is accused of assaulting three female officers dating back to 2004. The grand jury found that when these women came to him as a mentor asking for guidance, he would come on to them and assault them. After these women reported the alleged assaults, they were retaliated against with internal affairs investigations of them. Holmes joined the force in 1990. He is currently being held on $850,000 bail.

Philadelphia Police have taken a man into custody in connection to the shooting of an 11-month-old baby boy last Saturday evening, 10/19, in Hunting Park. Police have not identified the suspect and no charges have been filed yet. He was arrested when he showed up for court on a unrelated charge. 11-month-old Yaseem Munir Jenkins was hit four times while riding in his step mother's car. She was driving near North 7th and West Luzerne Streets when shots rang out. When she got home she saw that her car had been struck and that Yaseem was hit several times. The boy remains in extremely critical condition at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.

The Philadelphia Phillies have hired Joe Girardi as the club's next manager. Girardi becomes the franchise's 55th manager. He received a three-year contract with a club option for 2023. The Phillies had also interviewed Buck Showalter and Dusty Baker for the position. Girardi also interviewed with the Mets and Cubs for their open positions. As a catcher, Girardi played for several teams over his 15-year career and won three World Series with the Yankees in the 90s. He coached the Florida Marlins in 2006 and was named National League Manager of the Year, but was fired nonetheless. Girardi then managed the New York Yankees from 2008-2017 leading them to the post season 6-times. He was their skipper when they beat the Phillies in the 2009 World Series. He will wear number 25.
