A local volunteer fire company has been 'relieved of duty indefinitely' after no action was taken when a volunteer member of the company was discovered to have associated with a recognized extremist group. Haverford Township announced on Wednesday that the Bon Air Fire Company had been taken out of service. In mid-August, the township received a report that a volunteer firefighter had tried to become a member of the Proud Boys, which is listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The volunteer admitted to attending some social gatherings and passing two of the four initiation steps, but said he has attempted to distance himself from the group. He submitted his resignation, but the board of the Bon Air Fire Company did not accept the resignation. The township then decided to close the whole fire company and remove township owned fire apparatus from the building. Bon Air Fire Company has responded. They say that in their own investigations they have found “that that volunteer is not now, nor ever was, a member of the outside organization... He never attended any rallies or protests and he disassociated himself from the group more than one year ago. He has broken no law and committed no crime.” There are four other fire companies serving Haverford Township: Brookline Llanerch, Manoa, and Oakmont. Bon Air Fire Company was opened in 1918. See statements from both Haverford Township and Bon Air Fire Company below.

A female passenger was shot during a carjacking attempt early Thursday morning, 9/5, in North Philadelphia. It happened around 3:20 a.m. near Westmoreland and Mascher Streets. A man and a woman were sitting inside a BMW when three men approached and tried to get in. They pulled on the door handles which were locked. The 25-year-old driver sped off but crashed into two parked cars. At least one of the three men opened fire. The 23-year-old woman in the passenger's seat was struck in the chest. The male drove her to Episcopal Hospital. No word on her condition. Police are searching for the three suspects.

Philadelphia Police are searching for a masked suspect who beat a gas station worker with a hammer while committing a robbery in the Ogontz section. It happened around 9:50 p.m. on Monday, 9/3, at the Shell station on the 6200 block of North Broad Street. Surveillance video released by police show the suspect dressed in dark clothing and wearing a hockey mask. The victim was hit multiple times in the head and face before being dragged to the freezer. The robber took cigarettes and cash. He was last seen fleeing west on Stenton Ave. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical by stable condition. If you have any information contact police.
