Six Philadelphia Police officers were shot and nine total were injured during an active standoff in the Tioga-Nicetown section of North Philadelphia on Wednesday, 8/14. Two officers and and three hostages who were trapped inside the home for several hours were evacuated by SWAT. The situation has ended.

It started around 4:30 p.m. when officers attempted to serve a narcotics warrant on the 3700 block of North 15th Street near Erie. Officers had made their way into the kitchen area when the suspect began to fire upon police. Cops jumped out of windows and doors to avoid the shots. The suspect then barricaded himself in the house. The active shooter situation is ongoing. Many shots were exchanged between the suspect inside and the large police response out on the street. The suspect was live-streaming himself at times during the shootout. He has been identified as 36-year-old Maurice Hill who has a long criminal record. Hill surrendered shortly after 12 a.m. Thursday, 8/15.

The six officers who were hit by gunfire were rushed to nearby Temple University Hospital or Einstein Medical Center in police cruisers. Their injuries have been deemed non life-threatening and they are expected to be ok. All 6 shooting victims have been released. One officer who was injured in a crash on the the way to the scene remains hospitalized. SWAT was able to escort two women and two children from the scene. The situation changed from a hostage to a barricade at that point. It has now ended.
