Temple and Lehigh make NCAA Tournament; Drexel's Bubble Bursts

The 2012 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament brackets have been announced. As expected, the Temple Owls and Lehigh Engineers made the field of 68. Lehigh for sure because they won their Patriot League confererence tournaments automatic bid.

Temple, the 5 seed, and will begin play against 12 seed determined by the winner of the play in game between California and South Florida. They play in Nashville on Friday.

Lehigh (15) take on Duke (2) in Greensboro, NC on Friday, March 16.

The Drexel Dragons were the only other area team hoping for a March Madness ticket, however their's was not punched tonight. Drexel had a record of 27-6 on the year, but lost it's Conference USA championship to VCU 59-56 to miss out on the automatic qualifier. They had hoped their record would be enough for an at large bid it was not. Talking about why Drexel missed out over a team like Iona, committee officials cited the Dragon's poor strength of schedule way down the chart at 226. With no marquee wins over non-conference opponents and conference teams with very poor RPIs, they couldn't justify putting Drexel in the field.

The message they want the send is clear, 'Pay attention to how your schedule your non-conference games; make sure they are quality'
