Nine people were injured in a car crash involving 2 vehicles and pedestrians outside of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Center City on Friday afternoon, 7/12. It happened around 4:05 p.m. at 10th and Sansom Streets. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but it appears that a car rear ended an SUV. Hospital nursing staff came out to help the victims and placed them directly on gurneys. Two people are in serious condition, one person is in fair condition, and five others are being evaluated. A child was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as a trauma alert with unstable vital signs.

A 5-year-old boy died while playing in a stormwater retention pond on a family farm in Berks County on Thursday evening, 7/11. It happened around 8:15 p.m. in Oley. Andrew Martin was with other boys in a small kayak or paddle board. The boat flipped over and Martin was in trouble. The boys ran to the family home and a parent called 911. Martin was found unconscious by first responders and died at the hospital. Authorities say it was not related to all of the flash flooding in the area on Thursday night. An investigation in ongoing.

The Pennsylvania Health Department is adding Tourette's syndrome and anxiety disorders to the list of qualify conditions for people to obtain a medical marijuana license. Dr. Rachel Levine announced the changes on Thursday, 7/11. They will go into effect of July 20. The decision was made on the recommendation of PA's Medical Marijuana Advisory Board and Levine's own research. Levine say that doctors should try traditional therapeutic approaches before prescribing medical marijuana. Almost 111,000 people in Pennsylvania are already certified in the program. The list of qualifying conditions also includes cancer, epilepsy, intractable seizures, post-traumatic stress disorder, terminal illness, and others.
