Dinosaur Drives Through Center City; Manayunk Man Arrested for Rape; S.Jersey Playground Set on Fire

A giant animatronic dinosaur made its way through Center City on Wednesday morning, 6/26, on the back of a flatbed truck. The 40-foot-long Spinosaurus started its journey in Somerdale, Camden County. It crossed the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, through the city, and down and around the Benjamin Franklin Parkway before arriving at its final destination outside of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. The dinosaur will be one of two that are installed at 19th and the Parkway as part of the "Dinosaurs Around the World" exhibit. The exhibit opens to the public on Sunday.

Philadelphia Police have arrested a Manayunk man for the alleged rape of a teenage girl on Monday evening, 6/24. It happened on the 4600 block of Umbria Street. 28-year-old Michael Kaufman is charged with rape, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of a minor, and other related charges. Kaufman and the 14-year-old victim met on the dating app "Skout." The victim posed as an older woman. According to Skout's safety tips, the teen community and adult community are separate and "community members in these groups can only communicate with peers close to their own age." They arranged to meet at Kelly Park in Roxborough the same day. The teenage victim brought her 19-year-old cousin along to the park. The three of them went back to Kaufman's home on Umbria Street. At some point the cousin left, and that's when Kaufman raped the teen. He took her back to Kelly Park and dropped her off. She ran to a nearby house and called 911. Police arrested Kaufman at his home. Officials are looking info surveillance footage from the park and seeing if he may be connected to other crimes.

Officials in South Jersey are trying to find those responsible for setting fire to and destroying a neighborhood playground. The fire happened on Saturday morning, 6/22, at the Charles Bowen Recreational Complex on South Club Road in Pine Hill, Camden County. The playground area and concession stand suffered $75,000 worth of damage. "Right now we’re investigating this as a suspicious fire. We're hoping to get information from the community. Anybody with information, we're asking to come forward. Anybody with like Ring cameras," Pine Hill Police Department Lt. Christopher Witts said. There is a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
