Former Vice President Joe Biden held a rally on Saturday afternoon, 5/18, at Eakins Oval in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum along Benjamin Franklin Parkway as part of his 2020 presidential campaign rollout. This past week Biden for President announced that Philadelphia will be their campaign headquarters. Biden and his wife Jill have long ties to the state and area, plus it will be a key state to win in the general election. Today, Biden's message was one of unity and compromise for all Americans. "If the American people want the president to add to our division, lead with a clinched fist, a closed hand, to demonize your opponent, to spew hatred, they don't need me, they've got President Donald Trump," Biden said. "I am running to offer our country - Democrats, Republicans and independents - a different path." There are some Democratic candidates that take a more aggressive and angrier tactic. "That's what they are saying you have to do to win the Democratic nomination. Well, I don't believe it," he declared. "I believe Democrats want to unify this nation. That's what the party's always been about. That's what it's always been about. Unity." "Comprise itself is not a dirty word," Biden said. "Consensus is not a weakness. It's how our founders down the road thought we would govern."
