A distraught man set a van on fire and attempted to set himself on fire in a Starbucks in Huntingdon Valley on Saturday, 5/4. It happened around 4:30 p.m. in the Huntingdon Valley Shopping Center on the 800 block of Huntingdon Pike. Police arrived to find a van engulfed in flames in the parking lot. A man standing near the van doused himself with a flammable substance. He ran into the Starbucks and threatened to self-immolate. Police tried to negotiate with the man, but he had a lighter in hand. They used non-lethal rounds to subdue the suspect and take him in to custody. The man did strike the lighter once and caused first and second degree burns to his hands. He will be treated and evaluated. Charges are expected.

The mother of an 18-month-old baby girl that was abandoned in Kensington has been found. The Philadelphia Special Victims Unit is now questioning 35-year-old Desiree Frederick. They do not know what charges. if any, will be filed. Frederick supposedly left the toddler with a stranger around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, 5/4, on the 3100 block of E. Street in Kensington. When she never returned, they called police. The girl was found with abrasions on her face and was taken to the hospital for observation. The child's photo was released last night and was quickly identified. Her home was only about a mile from where she was left. The child is now safe with family. The investigation is ongoing.

Newark Police have arrested a man wanted for posing as a ride share driver and then raping a 21-year-old woman on Saturday, 5/4. 41-year-old Roberto Rodriguez is charged with rape, possession of a deadly weapon, unlawful sexual contact, theft, and malicious interference with emergency communications. Police received tips on the image of the suspect's truck, which led them to Rodriguez. The incident happened near the campus of the University of Delaware near the intersection of South Chapel Street and East Delaware Avenue around 1:15 a.m. Saturday morning. The woman was walking when the truck pulled up and the driver told her that he was her ride. She told him that she hadn't ordered one. However, she decided to take the ride anyway. Once inside the driver pulled a knife and demanded a sex act. Once she was dropped off she called 911. Rodriguez is being held on $63,000 cash bail. He is at Howard R. Young Correctional Facility in Wilmington.
