A North Philadelphia women died following a fight over a parking spot on Friday night, 4/26. It happened around 8:30 p.m. on the 2500 block of North Jessup Street. 57-year-old Lourdes Estremera had set up a grill outside her house in an open parking spot. Another woman came by and wanted to park in that spot occupied by the grill. An argument turned into a physical altercation. The police were called and they broke up the fight. While officers were interviewing Estremera she became unresponsive. She was pronounced dead a short time later when medics arrived. Investigators do not know the cause of death at this time or if the other woman will be charged. "There was two neighbors arguing and you know I guess they had a heated argument and it got a little physical. The end result was my mom is no longer here," Christian Rosa, Estremera's son, said. Estremera was a wife, mother of three, and grandmother.

Hundreds of people gathered on a vacant lot at 27th and Girard on Saturday afternoon, 4/27. They were all drawn out of curiosity from a strange flyer distributed throughout Fairmount and Brewerytown back in February. (see letter below) The letter lays out some interesting theories on nutrition, before saying the only way to save ourselves is to become a solid steel statues. The letter ends by inviting everyone to attend a planning meeting to discuss building a furnace at the lot on April 27th at noon saying "Do Attend." The letter was posted all over social media and went viral. No one knew what to expect, but attendees came to have fun, considering the invitation said they were going to pour molten metal on people. There was a DJ, beverages, and dancing. The mystery of the letter's source was soon solved. A women named Alvonia Smith said she typed up the letter for the man named "ABBA." He arrived by wheelchair just before 2 p.m. He is actually 64-year-old Milton Jackson from Brewerytown. He was glad to see he was able to bring people together.

Twenty one people were arrested and dozens of birds were seized after a cockfighting ring was raided in Port Richmond overnight Friday. It happened at a home on the 2100 block of East Ann Street. Both Philadelphia police and animal protection officers from the PSPCA broke up the fights in progress. 40 birds were seized including fighting roosters and hens. Some of them were dead. Cockfighting paraphernalia was also found. Police had to chase some suspects who fled on foot. Four suspects broke their ankles when they tried to climb over a 30 ft wall. Animal fighting is a felony offense. The SPCA will care for the birds for now.
