Firefighters lined the way and stood on nearly every overpass during the distinguished transfer of a US marine killed in action in Afghanistan from Dover Air Force Base to New York City on Monday morning, 4/22. The three state procession carried the remains of Staff Sgt. Christopher Slutman. The 43-year-old husband and father of three was killed by a roadside bomb on April 8th. He is also a 15-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department. His funeral will be in the Bronx this week and then he'll be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. The police-escorted procession made it's way up the New Jersey Turnpike with many paying their respects from overpasses.

Philadelphia police evacuated several homes after discovering what appeared to by dynamite attached to an aerosol can inside a home in West Oak Lane early Monday morning. Police got a call from a man around 1:30 a.m. claiming that someone had stolen several guns from his home in a robbery. While officers were searching the man's house they found more weapons and the suspicious device. Captain Thomas Davidson said, "During the course of the search, they came upon what appeared to be an aerosol can taped to an explosive device, similar to a stick of dynamite." A 100-foot perimeter was set up at the intersection of West 65th Avenue and North 15th Street and the bomb squad was called. It turned out to be a firework and not a stick of dynamite. There were no arrests. Police are still looking into the gun thefts.

Today, Monday April 22nd, is the last day you can register to vote in Pennsylvania and still be able to participate in the primary election on May 22nd, 2019. If you are already registered to vote, you do not have to register again (unless you've changed your name, address, or party). You can register online by tonight here or have a paper registration postmarked with today's date.
