The 61st Annual Recording Academy Grammy Awards were held on Sunday, 2/10, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. It was hosted by multi-Grammy award winner Alicia Keys. In addition to the many awards, there were excellent performances and collaborations. Some of the better performances include a medley of songs with Kacey Musgraves, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Maren Morris, and Dolly Parton. Diana Ross celebrated her 75th birthday with a rousing solo performance. Lady Gaga performed "Shallow" (sans Bradley Cooper) in a glam rock outfit, which is a juxtaposition to the movie "A Star is Born." H.E.R., Brandi Carlile, Janelle Monae, St. Vincent, and Due Lipa each also had terrific performances.

Several artists with ties to the Philadelphia area walked away with gramophone statutes on Sunday night. Jenkintown's Bradley Cooper won two awards for his duet with Lady Gaga, "Shallow," from the movie A Star is Born. Chester producer, Jahlil Beats, won on the song, "Bubblin," that he co-produced with Antman Wonder for Anderson .Paak. Ardmore-native Benj Pasek won Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media for the The Greatest Showman. The Crossing choir from Chestnut Hill led by conductor Donald Nally received Best Choral Performance. Aaron Jay Kernis, born in Philadelphia and raised in Bensalem, won two awards for his violin concerto composition. Silk City (comprised of Diplo and Mark Ronson) along with Dua Lipa won for "Electricity." Diplo spent many years in Philadelphia at the start of his career as a DJ/producer. The name 'Silk City' comes from Philly's Silk City Diner where Diplo used to DJ. North Philly rapper Tierra Whack was nominated for Best Music Video for "Mumbo Jumbo" but did not win. See the complete list of local winners below.
