Dramatic video shot by a bystander Pat Tackney outside of Jim's Steaks at 4th and South Street shows a man's pants catch on fire after being tased. It happened on Friday night, 2/1, outside the cheesesteak restaurant along South Street in South Philadelphia. Apparently the man refused to leave the store and was forced outside by security guards. Once outside, the man and two security guards can be seen on video in a struggle. One guard pulls out a Taser and fires at the man's leg. The victim's pants erupt in flames. He falls to the ground and rolls over. The fire appears to go out after 5 seconds. That is when the video ends. Jim's has not commented on the incident. Police were not called to the scene and they do not have a comment.

Last week, Philadelphia City Councilwoman-at-large Helen Gym introduced a resolution to declare Philadelphia's solidarity with the #MuteRKelly campaign. On Thursday, 1/31, that resolution passed unanimously. R&B singer R. Kelly is now symbolically banned from Philadelphia, although there isn't any legal binding preventing him from visiting or performing in the city. Kelly has had a long, successful career as a singer, and although he has been accused and charged, he has escaped major consequences of his actions which include abuse, sexual assault, and statutory rape. The resolution declares "solidarity with and support for the #MuteRKelly campaign, a grassroots movement that seeks to remedy decades of silence surrounding the sexual abuse of young Black women and girls by denying R. Kelly a public platform within the City of Philadelphia and nationwide." The Lifetime docu-series "Surviving R. Kelly" in January brought Kelly back to the forefront. "This resolution is about fundamentally stating a public declaration that R. Kelly and sexual predators like him don't belong in a public sphere, with public support," Gym said. "This symbolic act of solidarity puts all sexual predators on notice."

The parents of Penn State sophomore Tim Piazza, who died two years ago following a night of drinking and hazing, have sued 28 members of his former fraternity as well as the security company responsible for enforcing alcohol regulations at the house. Lawyers for Piazza's announced the federal wrongful death lawsuit on Friday, 2/1, and also said they have reached a settlement with Penn State University. The settlement with the university, which the parents did not sue, contains a confidential monetary settlement but also an agreement on reforms to fraternity and sorority life on campus. On February 2nd, 2017, Piazza was forced to drink a significant amount of alcohol as part of a hazing ritual in the Beta Theta Pi house. Throughout the night he suffered a series of falls, but emergency services were not called until the next morning. He died the next day of head injuries. The lawsuit alleges the fraternity members of negligence, civil conspiracy, battery, and infliction of emotional distress each to varying degrees. St. Moritz Security Services is also named. They were paid to make checks of the house to make sure the fraternity was in compliance with rules concerning hazing and drinking.
