The man accused of killing a Temple University student in 2017 and disposing of her body in the mountains pled guilty to several counts as his trial began on Tuesday, 1/8. 30-year-old Joshua Hupperterz is on trial for the murder of 22-year-old Jenna Burleigh in August 2017. Prosecutors say that Hupperterz and Burleigh met at a bar near Temple's campus on August 31st. They left together and went to his apartment nearby. That is where investigators say Hupperterz beat, strangled, and stabbed Burleigh to death after she refused a sex act. He placed the body in a plastic storage container and took a ride share to his grandmother's house in the Poconos where he left the body. He pled guilty to abuse of corpse and tampering with evidence, but not guilty to murder. In opening statements, his defense attorney pointed at Hupperterz's roommate as the killer. The prosecution said that they will show evidence that it was the defendant.

Philadelphia Police are searching for a man wanted for deliberately setting fire to a recycling facility two days before Christmas. It happened at the Gold Medal Environmental Recycling located at 1620 South 49th Street on December 23. The large fire was in the recycling debris area and grew to three alarms before being brought under control. Surveillance footage shows a man walk up and set the debris on fire. He is described as white male, wearing a black hat, black jacket, black pants, carrying a crowbar, and walks with a limp. If you have any information contact police 215.686.TIPS (8477).

Furloughed federal government workers gathered outside the Liberty Bell this morning, 1/8, to protest the ongoing government shutdown. The shutdown has been going on now for 18 days. Workers are worried about being able to pay bills, mortgages, rent, and other obligations while missing pay checks. EPA, IRS, National Park Service, and Air Traffic Control employees were at the rally.
