A man died in a South Philadelphia park after being punched by another man over a disagreement about the suspect's dog. It happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday, 1/5, in Gold Star Park. The 38-year-old victim and his fiance had stepped out to walk their dog. There was already another man in the park that had his dog unleashed, which is not permitted. The victim asked the man to put his dog on a leash. The suspect got angry and punched the victim in the face. The victim fell and hit his head on the ground. He was rushed to Jefferson Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect fled, but police believe he is someone who frequents the area. They will continue to talk to witnesses and look at surveillance video. If you have any information contact police.

UPDATE: The victim had been identified as 38-year-old Drew Justice.

Upper Darby Police captured a Vermont man wanted by the FBI for kidnapping and sexual assault on Sunday afternoon, 1/6. 41-year-old Everett Simpson was arrested by police in Morton after stealing a vehicle and then crashing. For Simpson, it all began on Saturday, 1/5, outside the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester, New Hampshire. He forced a woman and her child into their car and drove to Vermont. He then had her rent a hotel room and proceeded to assault her inside. He then fled the state. The FBI put out the wanted bulletin. Simpson had left a substance-abuse rehabilitation facility and stole a car three days prior to the kidnapping.

Widener University is suing the City of Chester to stop its plans to install 1,200 parking meters on campus. Chester has already placed hundreds of poles on the streets with meters to be added later. It will cost students, faculty, staff, and visitors $2/hour to park. You can prepay longer periods including $48 for 24 hours, $336 for a seven-day week, or $1,080 for a full month! Center City Philadelphia monthly parking rates are about $200-300. Over 3,000 students have signed a petition against the meters. Chester says that enforcement will start January 14th, the date students return from winter break.

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Chicago Bears 16-15 in the Wildcard round of the NFL Playoffs on Sunday afternoon, 1/6. Nick Foles threw a touchdown pass to Golden Tate on 4th and Goal late in the 4th quarter to put the Eagles in the lead. With little time left the Bears drove down the field to attempt a field goal. Bears kicker Cody Parkey missed the field goal, hitting the upright and the crossbar, with no time left. The Eagles will travel to the New Orleans Saints next Sunday for the Divisional round.
