A teenage girl in North Philadelphia has been charged after she placed her newborn baby in the trash. The baby was found on New Year's Eve and was pronounced dead at the hospital. 15-year-old Jani Morris, of the 2200 block of Lehigh Avenue, has been charged as an adult. She faces charges of murder, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of an instrument of crime, and abuse of a corpse. The child was found inside a trash bag on an empty lot. The teen's mother and an other woman discovered the baby while searching. Police are still investigating how and why the young mother did this.

Three people are dead and two others are injured after a head-on collision early Wednesday morning in South Philadelphia. It happened around 1:45 a.m. at 7th Street and Packer Avenue near the stadium complex. It involved two vehicles, a 2014 Audi A4 and a 2015 Acura RDX. The driver of the Audi crossed over into oncoming traffic and slammed into the other vehicle. There were 4 people in the Acura. They were returning home from a party at the South Philadelphia String Band clubhouse. 36-year-old Joseph Ferry of South Philadelphia, 31-year-old Dennis Palandro of Morton, and 35-year-old Kelly Wiseley of Glenolden died. Palandro's 30-year-old wife Nicole was taken to the hospital with a broken pelvis and other injures. Ferry and Wiseley had just gotten engaged at Christmas. Wisely and Palandro had just performed in the Mummers Parade as members of the South Philadelphia String Band. A GoFundMe page has been set up for Nicole Palandro https://www.gofundme.com/for-nicole-palandros

29-year-old Keith Campbell of Delaware was driving the Audi. Police say that it appears he stabbed himself 15-20 times in the chest and stomach. A 10-inch knife was on the floor of his vehicle. He is being charged with four counts of causing an accident that resulted in death or serious injury.

UPDATE: 29-year-old Keith Campbell of Bear, Delaware has been charged with three counts of homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and possession of an instrument of crime. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible. Authorities say that a letter was found inside Campbell's vehicle but did not say what it said. He has been formally arraigned and bail is set at $1.75 million.
